Nice to meet you; we are here to help!
Alissa
Fischer Groen
Attorney at Law
THE IMPORTANT STUFF
Alissa grew up on a dairy farm near Sleepy Eye and attended St. Mary’s High School. Upon graduation, Alissa continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She then focused her legal studies on elder law and justice at William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul. During her studies; she was named an Elder Justice Scholar and was the first William Mitchell student to place in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys’ student writing competition.
Alissa graduated with honors from William Mitchell in May 2012.
THE FUN STUFF
When she isn’t at the office, you'll find Alissa and her plant-enthusiast husband at the family cabin with their loved-ones, binge watching Shark Tank, or dreaming up their next big adventure; all while doting on the beautiful little girl they welcomed to their family in Fall of 2021!
Alissa finds enjoyment in helping others, taking part in community events, bar bingo and meat raffles, and she considers herself a peanut butter aficionado!
Emily Bystrzycki
Legal Assistant
THE IMPORTANT STUFF
Emily Bystrzycki (bye-strick-ee) grew up in Iberia, just 7 miles south of town and attended Sleepy Eye Public High School.
Prior to joining Alissa’s team, Emily was an Administrative Assistant for 1.5 years. She then spent the next 7 years as an Account Development Manager in Iowa where she discovered her passion for client relations. In 2019 Emily returned to her roots in the land of 10,000 lakes and left behind the land of 10,000 corn fields to be closer to family. Emily started at Fischer Groen Law where Alissa has taken Emily under her wing to show her the ropes of personal law and the city attorney efforts.
THE FUN STUFF
In Summer months, you will likely find Emily camping, enjoying an outdoor movie night around a fire in the backyard, or out on the water satisfying her love of fishing.
When snow flies, 'tis the season for vegging out to Bravo marathons and “soup nights” with her family.
Emily loves to travel, craft, build, bake and cook, but most of all, she enjoys doing anything that involves spending quality time with her son and her husband!
Julia
Lux
Paralegal
THE IMPORTANT STUFF
A Sleepy Eye native, Julia attended high school at St. Mary’s and later attended college at Winona State University where she acquired her bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies. Prior to joining Alissa’s team, Julia spent 5 years working as a Paralegal and later transitioned into the role of Closing Agent for 2 years at a law firm and title company in New Ulm.
In May 2019, with 7 years of experience and a desire to join a firm with a “small town” feel, Fischer Groen Law and Groen Title Co. felt like the perfect opportunity for Julia.
THE FUN STUFF
When she isn't at the office, you might find Julia putting together a puzzle, watching The West Wing, or reading whatever book she can get her hands on (fun fact: Julia can finish a 500-page novel in less than two days; WHOA). When she isn’t soaking up quiet time, you can find her playing with her sons.
Julia enjoys shopping, spending time with family, and reminiscing about the good ol' days in Sleepy Eye when "Buttered Corn Days" was still a thing.
Melissa
Rettig
Legal Assistant
THE IMPORTANT STUFF
Having graduated from GFW schools and formerly a Legal Assistant for Paul Glaeser's Gibbon firm for 8+ years, Melissa was the perfect candidate to join Fischer Groen Law when Alissa acquired the Gibbon office in April 2022. Melissa's familiarity with the community and previous experience make her an invaluable addition!
Melissa feels fortunate to continue working with previous clients and is excited to meet and build new relationships with clients of Fischer Groen Law.
THE FUN STUFF
Having been raised in Gibbon herself, Melissa and her husband knew it was the perfect place to plant family roots and raise their children for the past 20+ years.
Melissa loves to travel; and while her favorite vacation spot is anywhere with a beach, this soon-to-be empty nester anticipates a lot of travel where all roads lead to good cheese - Wisconsin! Melissa's oldest child attends UW-Eau Claire and her youngest is preparing to attend
UW-River Falls next year.
Melissa takes every opportunity she can to spend time with her family and enjoys cooking, baking, and gardening in her free time.
